Recently, it was announced that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts would be sidelined with a superficial blood clot. The news comes as the Eagles gear up for their upcoming matchup against the Carolina Panthers at home, looking to break a three-game losing streak.

The scary situation has drawn a host of reactions from the sports world, including from former quarterback and current ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, who recently stopped by The Pat McAfee Show to share a personal anecdote.

“I had a calf injury that ended up being a pulmonary embolism.. The blood clots left my calf & got into my bloodstream.. They went thru my heart & ended up in my lungs.. I've been on blood thinners ever since & I'll be on them for the rest of my life,” said Herbstreit, per Pat McAfee on X, formerly Twitter.

It's certainly not an issue to be taken lightly, as numerous star athletes have missed time due to blood clots in recent years, including San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama and then-Milwaukee Bucks point guard Damian Lillard, among others.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network weighed in on social media about Herbstreit's story, writing, “This is a great explanation of how scary it can be and why immediate treatment is necessary.”

The hope is that this situation will be taken care of quickly and safely and that Hurts will be able to return to action soon.
