Texas is no longer undefeated. Oklahoma took the shocking upset over Texas, hitting a field goal as time expired to take a 27-24 victory in the game. Making the victory even more shocking, Texas was the top-ranked team in the nation, while Oklahoma was heavily criticized for its recent play.

After the game, Oklahoma coach Brent Venables made sure to fire back at those critical of his program, per Dave Wilson of ESPN.

“We needed to get a win for obvious reasons. I want these guys to experience victory — certainly in this game it was incredibly important,” Venables said. “People questioning the commitment and ‘the coaches can't coach' and ‘the players stink' and all this stuff … just spewing all kinds of incredibly repulsive things about people, coaches, players, all that. It comes with the arena, but at the same time, sometimes that fuels you. I don't think you look for that to fuel you, but I do think it brought us closer inside our building.”

Texas had every chance to win the game. They missed a 53-yard field goal that would have given them the lead. The Longhorns then forced another punt, but Arch Manning threw an interception with 19 seconds left in the game. The Sooners turned that interception into a game-winning field goal and the upset.

“It was really a classic game of two really good programs in an incredibly intense environment,” Venables added. “I think both sides would say it wasn't always pretty. It didn't always go our way, but it went right according to script.”

The Sooners have another Top 25 contest this upcoming week, as they host Kentucky on Saturday.
