The Alabama football team lost a heartbreaking game at home on Saturday night to Georgia. The Bulldogs nipped Alabama, 20-17. Following the game, Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell gave respect to Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton.

“Keelon Russell waited to congratulate Gunner Stockton while he finished his postgame interview,” On3 reported on X, formerly Twitter.

Russell even waited while the rest of his team left the field, the outlet reported.

Georgia won in Tuscaloosa for the first time under head coach Kirby Smart. The Bulldogs hadn't won there since Matthew Stafford was the quarterback of the Bulldogs in 2007.

Russell nearly led Alabama to a win in the game Saturday night, but ultimately the Crimson Tide came up short. Stockton was able to make a few more plays for his Georgia squad.

“(Russell) twice scrambled for long runs to extend drives and finished with 41 rushing yards. But he completed only 16 of 30 passes and was sacked on a crucial third down that pushed the Tide back from the Georgia 34 when a field goal could have knotted things at 20. Alabama didn’t score a touchdown in the second half, and both of its fourth quarter drives ended in punts. Russell is a special talent who will have lots of bright moments, but he hasn’t played in nearly as many big moments as Stockton, and it looked like it at times Saturday,” The Athletic wrote.

Alabama is now 5-1 on the season following the loss. The Crimson Tide are 3-1 in the SEC. The loss allowed Georgia to gain sole possession of first place in the SEC standings.

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer felt his team just wasn't able to stay poised in key moments of Saturday's game.

“We didn’t respond the right way,” DeBoer said postgame.

Things get no easier for Alabama. The Crimson Tide next play at Tennessee on Saturday.
