Texas Tech football withstood a sluggish outing against Colorado before blowing the game open late. The Red Raiders remain top 10 material heading into their bye week. But now main booster Cody Campbell is dealing with “chicken and oil” via Arkansas.
Booster for the Arkansas Razorbacks John Tyson certainly grabbed attention with this comment about the difference between his school and TTU.
“Well, he’s got oil, I’ve got chickens,” Tyson jokingly said.
Tyson got asked why Arkansas can't do for Razorbacks football what Campbell does NIL wise for the Red Raiders.
Campbell, however, fiercely clapped back with an NSFW response that surfaced online on Monday. Including mentioning head coach Joey McGuire's name.
“Let me tell you something: This SOB has PLENTY of chickens. The difference is Joey McGuire. Money is money, but football is football,” Campbell responded.
Campbell, a former TTU defender, has drawn hefty intrigue in this era of NIL. The oil billionaire has poured lots of cash into the program including paying players. Texas Tech has risen as the top heavyweight in the Big 12 Conference. But the Red Raiders' rise hasn't come without controversy.
Quarterback Brendan Sorsby landed in Lubbock via the transfer portal from rival Cincinnati. But Sorsby left without throwing a single regular season pass following his high-profile gambling addiction, including betting on games involving his former team. Sorsby since entered the NFL's Supplemental Draft before the regular season.
Texas Tech also lured in former Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos, but that move got persuaded by the NCAA's fifth-year eligibility rule. The undrafted NFL rookie Castellanos joined a list of athletes filing Temporary Restraining Orders against the NCAA to seek another school. Castellanos got ruled ineligible before the Colorado game, though.
