The New Orleans Saints got taken to the woodshed by the Atlanta Falcons on prime time on Monday.

On the same night that New Orleans celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Superdome's reopening after Hurricane Katrina, the Saints were whopped by their NFC South rivals Falcons, who came away with a 45-24 victory.

The game was so lopsided that the Saints' loss was worse than any of their other losses to the Falcons since the turn of the millennium.

“The Saints have not lost by 20 points to the Falcons since 1999. They haven't lost THIS badly since 1982,” Dylan Sanders of Roundtable Network shared via a social media post on X (formerly Twitter) following the game.

The Saints' stop unit was simply overpowered by the nightmarish attack of Atlanta, particularly on the ground. Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr. took turns in punching New Orleans' defense in the mouth. Bijan rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, while Brian burned rubber for 62 rushing yards and two scores on 14 carries. As a team, Atlanta compiled 420 total yards to just 320 by the home team.

That was not the kind of performance Saints fans wanted to see from their team, especially on a special evening and against a bitter rival in the division.

Tyler Shough passed for 286 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions on 30-of-48 completions, while Alvin Kamara powered through for two rushing touchdowns, his first scores of the season.

The Saints drop to 1-3. Only the 0-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a worse record through four weeks than New Orleans, which will look to prevent a three-game skid in Week 5 against the Minnesota Vikings at home.
