When news broke that Cam Jurgens was heading into concussion protocol after self-reporting feeling symptoms the Monday after the Philadelphia Eagles' crushing loss to the Los Angeles Rams, it left fans with one single player on their minds: Willie Lampkin.

Now, granted, calls for the 5-foot-10 University of North Carolina product to take the field aren't exactly new, as fans have been hoping to see what Lampkin can do since both Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens struggled to get much going in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders. Lampkin rapidly became a fan favorite during training camp for his exceptional effort in the run game despite his size, and with the left interior of the Birds' offensive line routinely allowing pressure when it counts, inserting him into the lineup in place of first Dickerson and then Jurgens felt like a potential solution.

With Jurgens likely out for Week 5, fans quickly embraced the idea of Lampkin helping to save the run game and hopefully the season.

Willie Lampkin will finally get his chance, it can’t be worse than Jurgens right? #Eagles https://t.co/zKZnUWOeCo

While Jurgens certainly has more experience than Lampkin at the NFL level, appearing in 71 NFL games versus just four for the UNC product, his play this year has been well below expectations, ranking second-to-last in defensive trade according to Pro Football Focus. Granted, expecting Lampkin to step in and become the second coming of Landon Dickerson might be a fool's errand, especially since he might end up playing at center if Jurgens can't go, but at this point, he just needs to be the Eagles' fifth-best offensive lineman, which, based on the tape so far this year, isn't a particularly high bar to clear.
