The contract stalemate between the Detroit Pistons and Jalen Duren took another turn Wednesday when President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon appeared to reference his previous experience dealing with Zion Williamson while discussing Duren's situation.

With training camp underway ahead of the 2026-27 season, Langdon addressed how he is handling the ongoing negotiations. The former New Orleans Pelicans executive did not name Williamson directly, but his reference to “a certain player” from his five-year tenure in New Orleans immediately drew attention from fans.

“It's the first time I've had to handle it here. I was in New Orleans for five years with a certain player that wasn't easy to deal with either. So I do have experience in that,” Langdon said. “I think at these times we can control what we can control and that’s how we operate. There’s certain things that happen around – not just with this situation but a lot of different situations that aren’t under our control or my control. And so we stick with the things that we feel is the things that we can do and the things that we can do best and that’s just how we operate.”

The comments sparked immediate reactions on Reddit, where users speculated that Langdon was referring to Williamson.

Pistons GM Trajan Langdon pushed back at a reporter who said this is his first time dealing with a disgruntled player: "It's the first time I've had to handle it here. I was in New Orleans for five years with a certain player that wasn't easy to deal with either. So I do have experience in that."

“It's either Zion or Ingram and it's most definitely Zion lmao,” MysteriousSeat5245 wrote.

“Damn this Zion thing must have really been eating him,” RCJHGBR9989 added.

The reaction comes amid a contentious stretch of negotiations between Duren and Detroit. During Monday's media day, Langdon confirmed the sides had yet to reach an agreement after Duren reportedly declined the Pistons' latest five-year, $200 million offer and did not attend.

“We have not come to an agreement with Jalen Duren up to this point. He has until Thursday to make a decision. We will be excited to have him in regardless of whatever decision he does make,” Langdon said. “He was a huge reason for our success the last two seasons. He had a tremendous season individually last year as well.”

ESPN has reported that Duren rejected multiple offers amid concerns over what he viewed as “disrespect.” The reported issues included a contract clause requiring Duren to maintain a specific weight during the season and frustration surrounding how quickly Detroit handled contract discussions with Ausar Thompson.

Langdon dismissed the suggestion that personal feelings would influence Detroit's decision-making.

“I won't let anybody's feelings get in the way of decisions that I make professionally. So any reports regarding that are meaningless to me,” Langdon said.

Head coach J. B. Bickerstaff also reiterated Duren's importance to the organization.

“He knows how I feel about him and I've continue to let him know how I feel about him. I love J.D. and how he feels about being a member of the Pistons. It's positive,” Bickerstaff said. “He's a huge part of what we do, he's a huge of part of where we are right now and the steps we've taken to get there. It's all love from our standpoint and we look forward to having him back.”
