The Atlanta Braves' current focus is on winning Game 3 of their National League Wild Card Series against the Philadelphia Phillies and clinching a spot in the NLDS. The Phillies earned a big win in Game 2 to even the series 1-1. While the Braves did not play their best game, this is still a quality ball club that is more than capable of bouncing back. If Atlanta is able to advance to the next round, the team could get a crucial Lane Thomas boost in the outfield.
Thomas has been dealing with a left intercostal strain. He is expected to return in mid-October, according to MLB.com. However, the door is seemingly open for an early October return if the Braves reach the NLDS.
“Sidelined since Sept. 7, Thomas took batting practice on the field before Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Series. There’s a chance he could be ready for the NL Division Series,” MLB.com reported Wednesday.

The 31-year-old was acquired by Atlanta in a trade with the Kansas City Royals earlier in the season. He hit .224/.318/.383 across 118 games played between the Royals and Braves. However, Thomas hit .262 with an .803 OPS against left-handed pitching.
Atlanta is hoping to at least have the opportunity to decide if Thomas will be on the NLDS roster. That decision will only be possible with a win on Thursday night against the Phillies. First pitch for Game 3 of the series is scheduled for 8 PM ET.
