The New York Giants recently opted to shake things up by trading for Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy. The news comes after another tough week from Jameis Winston, who started in place of the injured Jaxson Dart on Sunday vs the Tennessee Titans.

Now, Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy has spoken on his view of McCarthy as he joins the team.

“I've talked to a lot of people, had a lot of good reviews back. I think the last 48 hours that he's been here, just like most guys, they're going to come in here and grind… he's done a great job with it. We're impressed,” he said, per Evan Barnes of Newsday Sports on X, formerly Twitter.

Barnes also reported that Nagy “…emphasized the focus remains on preparing Jameis Winston as the starter this week even as McCarthy gets up to speed.”

Winston was thrust into action unexpectedly after Dart went down two weeks ago against the Los Angeles Rams with a knee injury that has since been revealed to be season-ending.

He struggled in that one and once again on Sunday against Tennessee, generating calls for New York to look elsewhere at the quarterback position, although they were able to squeak out a win against the Titans in that one.

It remains to be seen if the Giants plan to hand the reins over to McCarthy anytime soon, or if he is simply an additional insurance policy behind Winston, but it's certainly made things more interesting at practice for the team this week.

In any case, New York is next slated to take the field on Sunday afternoon for a home game against the Arizona Cardinals. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm ET.
