Cleveland Guardians relief pitcher Colin Holderman has been working hard to return from a wrist injury. The door for a potential Holderman return this year remained open until Thursday, however. According to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com, Holderman said he will undergo wrist surgery, bringing his season to an end.
“Colin Holderman said he’s going to have right wrist surgery and won’t make it back this season. Issue has impacted him past four years,” Stebbins reported.
Holderman believes the Guardians can make a World Series push despite his injury absence.
“We’re the team of destiny,” the veteran pitcher said, via Stebbins.

Holderman was one of the best Cleveland relievers during the regular season, as he turned in a strong 2.73 ERA across 54 outings. He made the most of his first season with the Guardians before suffering the injury.
The 30-year-old is hopeful that the Guards can make a push. Their bullpen is still respectable overall, especially with star closer Cade Smith leading the way.
Cleveland clinched the American League Central division during the regular season and had a bye in the Wild Card round. The Chicago White Sox swept the Houston Astros in their AL Wild Card Series, so the Sox and Guardians will meet in the ALDS.
Chicago is going to be a challenging opponent, but Cleveland does hold home field advantage. The postseason series between the AL Central rival ball clubs is set to begin on Saturday.
