When the Boston Red Sox traded for Garrett Crochet in December 2024, they sent a four-player package to the Chicago White Sox that included Kyle Teel, Chase Meidroth and Braden Montgomery. Less than two years later, all three helped the White Sox secure their first playoff series victory since the 2005 World Series.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale highlighted the trio’s impact on X, formerly Twitter, after Chicago swept the Houston Astros.

“Kyle Teel, Chase Meidroth and Braden Montgomery, 3 of the 4 players acquired from Boston in the Garrett Crochet trade, hit .360 BA (9-25) with 1 HR, 5 RBI and 4 runs in the White Sox sweep over the Houston Astros.
Take a bow, GM Chris Getz.”

Chris Getz acquired Teel, Montgomery, Meidroth and Wikelman Gonzalez for Crochet on December 11, 2024. Teel, Montgomery and Meidroth started both games as the White Sox defeated the Astros 6-3 and 7-3 in the AL Wild Card Series.

Meidroth delivered the biggest swing in Game 2, launching a three-run homer off Bryan Abreu in the sixth inning to push Chicago’s lead to 7-3 and help seal the series-clinching win. The White Sox advanced to face the Cleveland Guardians after finishing 84-78.

The contrast sharpened when the New York Yankees eliminated Boston 9-2. Crochet made his first appearance for the Red Sox since April 25 after missing 2026 time with left shoulder inflammation. He faced four batters, recorded no outs and was charged with four runs.

Crochet, the 2025 AL Cy Young runner-up, is under a six-year, $170 million extension through 2031. The post did not declare the trade a final loss for the Red Sox, but Chicago’s return is contributing to a postseason run that continues Saturday in Cleveland.
