The Los Angeles Clippers are still recovering from the aftershocks of the punishment the NBA handed down to them for circumnavigating the salary cap regarding Kawhi Leonard. Leonard has since been traded to the Toronto Raptors, while the Clippers face a bleak future with five forfeited first-round picks over the coming years.
Although his reporting on the story has already been fully vindicated, sports journalist Pablo Torre is still unearthing new information on just how deep the conspiracy ran, including recently revealing that Leonard and a business account entitled “CLIP” received $1.9 million from Boingo Wireless, one of the implicated companies, in order for a single appearance.
The appearance turned out to be a photo opportunity with members of the United States military, per Pablo Torre Finds Out, via Known-Peak212 on Reddit.
It certainly raises further questions about just how much Leonard knew about how the Clippers were fracturing the rules, and whether he got off easy after the investigation.
“I genuinely don’t understand how Kawhi wasn’t punished at all,” wrote one fan on Reddit.

While Leonard did have to pay back some money in restitution, he avoided a suspension or a voided contract that some speculated could be coming as a result of the investigation, and now, he is free to play with the Raptors, with whom he has already signed a massive contract extension to take him through the 2028-29 season.
Meanwhile, the Clippers did not get off nearly as easy, with several massive fines and suspensions for key members of the organization, in addition to the forfeited draft picks.
Los Angeles will kick off its season on October 21.
