The Los Angeles Lakers recently held their media day as they prepare for the upcoming season. The Lakers have several new faces in the mix, including newly acquired center Walker Kessler, whom the team signed and traded for from the Utah Jazz.

However, the Lakers don't exactly have a ton of frontcourt depth behind Kessler on the bench, and recently, ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel suggested a name who could help them out in that department on the trade market.

“Jalen Smith is the type of player that would make sense for LA to target in this scenario since he's in the final year of his contract. Chicago would have no problem taking on two contracts from a financial perspective, and taking a chance on younger players like (Jaden) Hardy and (Dalton) Knecht could make sense for them as well. Keep an eye on his status,” he reported on ClutchPoints.

Smith is indeed an intriguing center for the Bulls, a player who has the size to play around the basket and can also stretch out to the three-point line on occasion.

Deandre Ayton was initially thought to be the Lakers' backup center for the upcoming season behind Kessler, but he has since ended up on the Washington Wizards, giving JJ Redick limited options for that role, especially now that Jaxson Hayes is a member of the Sacramento Kings.

It doesn't appear that Hardy or Knecht will play a big role for the Lakers this season, so parting ways with them in a trade for a more viable backup center option might be a sensible move for Rob Pelinka and company.

The Lakers will kick off their new season on October 21 vs the Golden State Warriors at home.
