The Washington Commanders are currently gearing up for their upcoming matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, which will take place on Sunday. The Commanders are coming off a surprising home win over the Seattle Seahawks, with Marcus Mariota turning back the clock as he started in place of the injured Jayden Daniels.
Daniels has since returned to practice after suffering an ugly dislocated elbow injury vs the Dallas Cowboys, and could return as soon as Sunday.
Now, Mariota has weighed in on that possibility.
“At the end of the day, I think if he’s healthy and he can play, he should play. This is his team. And the more that we can help support that and give him all the tools that he needs to be successful, that’s what our roles are,” said Mariota, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic on X, formerly Twitter.
Daniels suffered the injury at the tail end of the first half against the Cowboys two weeks ago, tripping over an offensive lineman and reaching down for balance, causing his elbow to twist in a gruesome fashion that led to him going down for several minutes and not returning to the game.
Some speculated that a potential season-ending surgery could be on the horizon in the wake of the injury, but thankfully, it doesn't seem that any such procedure is on the horizon.
Still, fans are understandably growing wary of Daniels' increasing reputation as an injury risk dating back to last year, and the budding star will hope to stay healthy as the season continues, if indeed he is able to return on Sunday vs the Colts.
