Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said Wednesday that the club still has not determined whether Rhys Hoskins or Colin Holderman will be available for Saturday’s American League Division Series opener.

The Guardians will open the ALDS on Saturday at Progressive Field after earning a first-round bye as the American League’s No. 2 seed. News 5 Cleveland’s Mason Horodyski shared a clip of Vogt’s media availability on X, formerly Twitter, as the two-time Manager of the Year addressed both players’ availability three days before Game 1.

Hoskins has dealt with lower back inflammation since August. He began a swing progression September 12 but still has no public return date. The veteran first baseman hit .179 with a .306 on-base percentage, a .376 slugging percentage and 13 home runs across 95 games before the injury interrupted his season.

Holderman has been sidelined by right wrist inflammation since early September. He attempted a rehab outing with Triple-A Columbus on September 17, but left after feeling pain while throwing a four-seam fastball. He received a wrist injection two days later, and the setback further delayed his return to Cleveland’s postseason bullpen plans.

The right-hander had emerged as one of the Guardians’ most dependable late-inning options, posting a 2.73 ERA and 1.04 WHIP across 52 2/3 innings in 54 appearances. His potential absence carries added significance for a bullpen that has been without him since the first week of September. That uncertainty leaves Cleveland with several roster decisions to finalize before submitting its postseason group ahead of Saturday’s series opener.

The Guardians finished 85-77, captured the AL Central and advanced directly to the Division Series. Cleveland will host Games 1 and 2 against the winner of the Chicago White Sox-Houston Astros Wild Card Series.

Hoskins and Holderman continued to work at Cleveland’s Columbus “stay ready” camp during the final week of the regular season. As of Wednesday, neither had received clearance for Saturday’s ALDS opener.
