Houston Astros manager Joe Espada moved Wednesday to defuse tension between his players and the home crowd before Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series against the Chicago White Sox.

The issue surfaced after the Astros’ 6-3 Game 1 loss Tuesday at Daikin Park, when Christian Walker and Bennett Sousa criticized boos from Houston fans and the number of empty seats. ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reported on X, formerly Twitter, that Espada spoke with his players before Wednesday’s elimination game and addressed the situation directly.
