Jalen Duren’s contract standoff with the Detroit Pistons is getting increasingly complicated. Multiple teams are reportedly monitoring the situation ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season. Duren skipped Media Day and the start of training camp. That's after rejecting Detroit’s reported five-year, $200 million offer. He is reportedly seeking a deal closer to his potential five-year, $287 million maximum.

ESPN insider Marc J. Spears reported that an NBA general manager identified the Milwaukee Bucks, Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Hawks, and Washington Wizards as teams monitoring a possible sign-and-trade scenario. Atlanta would offer Duren an intriguing frontcourt opportunity alongside Jalen Johnson. Washington’s interest could accelerate the Wizards’ rebuilding timeline by adding an established interior scorer. Duren averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds last season. He earned his first All-Star selection and All-NBA Third Team honors.

Detroit, however, still has a path to retain its starting center. Duren can accept the Pistons’ extension, continue negotiating or sign his $9.6 million qualifying offer. That would allow him to enter unrestricted free agency next summer. With the extension deadline approaching, the Pistons must navigate a widening gap. Meanwhile, rival teams monitor whether the stalemate ultimately creates an opportunity to acquire one of the NBA’s most productive young centers.

Duren entered the NBA after Charlotte selected him 13th overall in 2022. That's before he was acquired by Detroit. He quickly became a dominant rebounder and interior finisher, earning All-Rookie Second Team honors. Across 276 regular-season games, he has averaged 13.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists. His 2025-26 breakout saw him average 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 65% field goal shooting. That cemented his status as an All-Star and All-NBA center.
