Sidney Crosby has been the face of the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise for many years. Crosby is about to enter his 22nd season with Pittsburgh, and the final year of his contract. Ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas is giving an update on contract talks with Crosby.
“It’s always an open back-and-forth,” Dubas said, per NHL.com. “And I don’t feel, from our end, that there’s any real pressure to have it done by a certain date. We’ll just continue to talk.”
Crosby says he's also feeling no pressure about reaching a new deal right away. The Penguins center helped lead the club to the Stanley Cup Playoffs during the 2025-26 campaign.
“I’m comfortable with them having the conversations,” Crosby said on September 15. “I just want to focus on playing and they’ll handle that.”
Crosby enters this season with 1,761 career points. He is the all-time points leader for the historic NHL franchise.

Crosby's health is good as the season approaches. The Penguins center says his goal is to appear in as many games as possible for his club this year.
“I mean, I can’t predict how I’m going to feel in January, so I’m not going to try,” Crosby said recently. “I feel pretty good. It’s a long season, so I just need to make sure that I take care of myself the best I can. But yeah, I don’t typically think too far ahead. I’m not going to try to do that now.”
The Penguins have won three Stanley Cup championships with Crosby on the roster. During the 2025-26 season, the Penguins star appeared in 68 regular season games. He posted 74 points.
Pittsburgh lost in a first round playoffs series last season to the Philadelphia Flyers, in six games. The Penguins posted 98 points during the 2025-26 regular season.
