Jerry Jones was completely honest about how he is approaching the prime years of star quarterback Dak Prescott while he represents the Dallas Cowboys.
Prescott has been playing in the NFL since 2016, shining as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. While they have made the playoffs several times, they have yet to maximize their success with a Super Bowl appearance, much less an NFC Championship game appearance.
Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan on Friday, giving his thoughts on an article Cowboys reporter Jon Machota wrote about Dallas. It questioned whether the franchise is wasting Prescott's best years, having missed the playoffs for two straight years. Jones was in agreement with the article.
“I think he's at the prime of his career is what has motivated me to move chess pieces around the way we've been doing over the last three years. He's right. This is a great time. We've got outstanding quarterbacking, combination of his abilities, his athletic ability, as well as just what's in his experience factor as well as his natural leadership, but it was a great time, and so that had everything has everything since we have made the decision to have him on the team on the basis we are,” the team owner said.
“Then it has everything to do with moving the chess pieces around, and if you look over the years, we have really had the most direct thing that could impact him, which is the offense. If you look over the years, the supporting cast we've had around Dak Prescott, I'll put that with anybody, and on the offensive side of the ball, so we put it there for him, not for him, for us, for all of us, and we work hard.”
