The Los Angeles Rams have made a change at the kicker position ahead of Week 6. Los Angeles released Harrison Mevis following a loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football. In his place, Los Angeles is turning to Blake Grupe.

Grupe has some experience in the NFL. He was with the New Orleans Saints for parts of three seasons from 2023 to 2025. He split last season between New Orleans and the Indianapolis Colts. On Friday, Rams coach Sean McVay explained why he is confident in the 27-year-old kicker.

“He has kicked, which is part of why we felt comfortable signing (him)… I do feel confident based on what I've seen, and in his experience, to put him out there and go execute at a high level for us,” the Rams head coach said, via a clip shared by the team on social media.

Mevis entered the 2026 NFL season as the undisputed starting kicker. However, he struggled mightily this year. Overall, he missed four of the nine field goals he attempted. In the loss to the Bills, he missed a field goal and had another kick in overtime blocked. The overtime kick would have won Los Angeles the game had Mevis converted it.

The Rams were not able to bounce back from that block. Buffalo went on to win the game with a field goal of their own. They took the contest by a score of 37-34, moving the Rams to a record of 2-3 on the season.

Grupe is slated to make his Rams debut in Week 6 when Los Angeles takes on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday evening.
