If ESPN's “NBA Today” needed an elite distributor on the set, they surely landed one, with Basketball Hall of Famer Jason Kidd joining the crew at last.

The former Dallas Mavericks head coach was welcomed by Malika Andrews and company just before action begins in the league on Thursday. Before Kidd was introduced on the show, a 1990s Mavericks ad was played for a little bit of throwback. A number was flashed on the screen, which Andrews promptly dialed before Kidd answered on the other end of the line.

You can check out that cool intro and the warm reception Kidd got from Andrews, Kendrick Perkins and Brian Windhorst here:

This ESPN gig will keep Kidd busy while still being close to the game and league that turned him into a legend in the sports realm.

Before getting hired by ESPN, Kidd served as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, even leading the Western Conference franchise to the NBA Finals in 2024. Kidd and the Mavs parted ways following the 2025-26 season despite still having four years left on his contract at the time.

The 53-year-old Kidd also had coaching stints with the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Los Angeles Lakers.

But at the end of the day, Kidd will always be known most for his playing days in the NBA, during which he earned 10 All-Star nods and a ring in 2011 with the Mavericks.

In 1,391 games played in the NBA with the Mavericks, New Jersey Nets, Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks, Kidd averaged 12.6 points, 8.7 assists and 6.3 rebounds
