Minnesota Lynx guard Olivia Miles is going to be the runaway Rookie of the Year, but the budding star got her first taste of the WNBA Playoffs on Sunday during the Lynx’s shocking loss at home in Game 1 of the opening round to the New York Liberty. Miles did not play all that great, but Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve is confident that her rookie star will figure things out quickly, as per Mitchell Hansen of Canis Hoopus.

“Learning. She’s learning,” Reeve said after the game. “It’s hard to be a rookie in the playoffs against a team that has been tough on her … There’s a lot that goes into being a really good player … She’s a smart player, she’ll figure it out.”

Olivia Miles finished with only 11 points on 3-of-12 shooting from the field in the Lynx’s Game 1 loss to the Liberty. She was also 1-of-4 from the 3-point line. She did add eight rebounds, but managed only one assist. Miles played three games against the Liberty during the regular season, and although she averaged a little over 19 points against them, she did not shoot well against their defense.

In those three games, Miles shot 32 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from the 3-point line. In comparison, she shot 49.2 percent from the field and 38.8 percent from the 3-point line in the regular season overall.

The series will now shift to the Liberty’s home court where they will try and avoid elimination. A potential Game 3 to decide the series would be back on the Lynx’s home floor.
