The Baltimore Ravens won a thrilling 34-31 game over the Dallas Cowboys in Brazil that had fans calling for Brian Schottenheimer's job. The Ravens got the ball back with seven seconds left late in the game before QB Lamar Jackson hit Zay Flowers on a 27-yard pass to put Tyler Loop in range for his bonkers game-winner.
After the game, Jackson spoke with Tracy Wolfson, sharing the secret sauce that made the Flowers pass play work. Flowers caught the ball in the middle of the field and went down quickly, giving the Ravens a chance to freeze the clock with a timeout.
“Early in training camp, we run it after practice, almost every day, we was doing that play, ‘Layers,' I just had to deliver the throw, he caught it, it was get down, time out, and Loop finished it off,” Jackson said.
“Shout-out to special teams, shout out to Loop.”
The play came on a challenging day when Ravens starting center Jovaughn Gwyn was carted to the locker room with an injury. The Ravens' offense was out-gained by the Cowboys but made the plays it had to when needed. Jackson, who has been blamed for late game failures over the course of years, showed why he is still one of the NFL's best quarterbacks with a 15-of-20 day passing the ball including 186 yards and two touchdowns.
The Ravens are now 2-1 on the season and riding an incredible high after one of the most exciting wins in months. Jackson, Flowers, and the rest of coach John Harbaugh's team has found itself in the underdog role this season, and they appear comfortable with it as the NFL season starts to ramp up.
