Jahmyr Gibbs continues his dominant start to the 2026 season as he made NFL history in the Detroit Lions' 31-24 win over the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon.
Gibbs is going through the fourth season of his career with the Lions. He shines as one of the best running backs in the entire league, torching opponents with his yardage gains while scoring touchdowns in an explosive offense at Detroit.
Gibbs enjoyed another spectacular performance in Detroit's game against New York. He racked up 20 rushes for 99 yards and two touchdowns while catching seven passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. HIs efforts ended up making league history after the first three games of a season, per reporter Doug Clawson.
“Jahmyr Gibbs is the 2nd player in NFL history with 300+ rush yds, 150+ rec yds and 6+ TD through 3 games of a season (1980 Billy Sims, also with Lions),” Clawson wrote.

Both teams traded offensive blows after going scoreless in the first quarter. Despite New York's efforts of making an upset bid, Detroit made more plays down the stretch as they defended homefield and gifted the home crowd a quality win.
Jared Goff had a solid night leading the attack. He completed 25 out of 32 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns.
Isaac TeSlaa led receivers in yardage with 66 yards on three catches. Jameson Williams followed suit with four receptions for 49 yards, while Amon-Ra St. Brown caught four passes for 19 yards and a touchdown.
The Lions will look forward to their next matchup, being on the road. They take on the Carolina Panthers in Week 4 as kickoff commences on Oct. 4 at 8:20 p.m. ET.
