Coach Kellen Moore's New Orleans Saints have a long way to go to become a contender, but the play of ‘Poor Man's Josh Allen' Tyler Shough at quarterback has been encouraging. Shough passed for 255 yards and four touchdowns against the Raiders in Week 3 but it wasn't enough as New Orleans lost, 35-27 amid running back injury issues.
Shough's postgame press conference comments were shared via the New Orleans football network, during which he bemoaned how the game turned in favor of the Raiders.
“We feel very strongly about, just our ability to in any circumstance, just gain positive yards and keep going, and I think we were moving the ball well and a lot of time at the end there, we just shot ourselves in the foot when it came down to those turnovers.
“Stuff like that's gonna happen, but how do we try and limit those and make sure that we're on the other side of the coin for the turnover margin? That was the story at the end there, and it sucks but I think there's a lot of stuff to build off of.”
Star pass rusher Chase Young got a positive injury update before the game and forced a fumble, but it wasn't enough to stop the Raiders from scoring a big road win over Shough and his teammates. October 5 brings a home game against the Atlanta Falcons that will give Shough another chance to excel against Michael Penix Jr. and coach Kevin Stefanski's team, as well as a chance to take the lessons from Week 3's loss forward and transmute them into something better.
