While the vibes are high for the 2026-27 Boston Celtics, head coach Joe Mazzulla revealed a Derrick White regret ahead of the 2026-27 regular season. One NBA insider believes the Celtics can take No. 1, shocking fans who believe their offseason Jaylen Brown trade only helped a division rival in the Philadelphia 76ers inch closer to winning a championship.

Before the Celtics' regular season, White talked about how he made tweaks to his shooting last season that he wishes he didn't, he said, per Sports Illustrated's John Karalis.

“I think I started off slow, and then it kind of messes your mind,” White said.

The changes to Derrick White's shooting led to a slump during the Celtics' 2025-26 season.

“You start tweaking some things that you probably shouldn't need to tweak, and then it kind of just snowballs into what I had,” White told Celtics On SI. “So I think it starts with just having a good foundation, getting back to doing things that I've done my whole life, and issue with confidence after that.”

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla recalled wondering how he could have helped Derrick White during the poor stretch of shooting.

“I was like, OK, where could I have gotten better as a coach? Where could I have helped him get out of that faster?” he said. “What can we do as an organization? We have Kerry [Guest, the team performance psychologist] and our mental performance and things of that nature, so how can we help guys get out of stuff like that faster? I think that's just as much on me and Kerry and as it is on Derrick.”

Now, Mazzulla is letting White figure out what's best for him.

“I think he does a good job of being there for you, and also kind of lets you figure it out,” White said. “I thought he did a good job of kind of just doing the best you could, and it's up to us to make shots.”

After connecting on 38.4% of his 3-point attempts in 2024-25, White's shooting dipped to 32.7% from deep last season. He'll look to bounce back this upcoming season, perhaps closer to the 39.6% career-best shooting clip of 2023-24.
