The BYU football team is coming off an emotional win over Notre Dame at home. BYU next clashes with a UCF squad hoping to make waves this season in the Big 12. BYU is getting some important news ahead of that game.

“Sources: UCF quarterback Alonza Barnett III will not start again for UCF against No. 2 BYU in Orlando on Saturday. He’s still recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered at Pitt on Sept. 12. UCF is expected to start Keyone Jenkins for fifth-straight game,” ESPN's Pete Thamel posted to X, formerly Twitter.

BYU enters Saturday's game against UCF with a 6-0 record. The Cougars are also tied for first in the Big 12 with a 3-0 conference mark.

This won't be an easy game for BYU. The Cougars have to travel to Florida to play a UCF team that holds a 3-3 mark. BYU is also facing a lot of outside noise after defeating the Fighting Irish.

That noise is coming because BYU is making a case that it should be the no. 1 team in the country.

“We are halfway through the season. We plan on playing 12 regular-season games, and then if we do our part, we’ll see how it goes,” BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said, per Deseret News. “Right now, it’s a week-to-week type of deal, and (we) don’t really have time for that stuff, to be honest with you.

“… We had a good weekend, and guys had a good day of worship yesterday, and so now it’s going to be a day of work. The work doesn’t care what number you are ranked.”

The Cougars hope to win the Big 12 this season and make the College Football Playoff. BYU was on the outside looking in to last year's CFP field.

BYU and UCF play Saturday at 3:30 ET.
