Dani Carvajal started his first game for Getafe in a 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano, as Martin Satriano equalised after Djené's first-half red card. The 34-year-old now has to sit out Thursday's Conference League visit of Lugano.
Dani Carvajal’s first match for Getafe brought a point, not a win. Pepe Bordalás’s side twice had to dig in at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. They fell behind early and lost a defender to a red card before half-time.
Jorge De Frutos supplied the assist for Rayo’s opener, which García finished. Djené had already been booked for handball before his dismissal. Rayo led 0-1 at the interval.
Ten men survive Rayo’s pressure after Satriano equaliser
Francho Serrano created the equaliser early in the second half, and Satriano converted it. The striker was the best-rated player on the pitch with 8.2. He had four shots and made two key passes.
The rest of the numbers belonged to Rayo. Beñat San José’s team had 68% of the ball and attempted 21 shots to Getafe’s 12. Their expected goals reached 2.26 against 0.61 for the hosts. Rayo completed 521 accurate passes. Getafe managed 181. Audero, in the Rayo goal, was kept to three saves, while David Soria made four at the other end.
The match was a physical one. Getafe collected six yellow cards to Rayo’s three, and Kiko Femenía was booked in the first minute. Carvajal was cautioned in the 79th minute. Enes Ünal and Nemanja Gudelj were also booked late on.
The point leaves both clubs on 9 points. Getafe are 14th after nine games. Rayo are 13th with a game in hand. When the teams last met, on 3 May 2026, Rayo won 0-2 at the Coliseum. In all competitions, Getafe’s last two games have both finished 1-1. The previous one came against Universitatea Craiova in the Conference League.
Carvajal must wait for European football with Getafe
Getafe signed Carvajal on 13 October on a contract that runs until 30 June 2027. The right-back had been a free agent since leaving Real Madrid. Getafe are his third club after Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid. He arrived with 51 caps for Spain and 29 titles with Real Madrid and the national team, including six Champions Leagues and Euro 2024.
The deal was not straightforward. Carvajal passed his medical by 9 October. The move then depended on an agreement with LaLiga to fit it within the club’s salary limit.
Bordalás kept his plans quiet before the game. At his press conference on Sunday 18 October, he said Carvajal was ready but would decide on matchday whether to give him his debut. He also ruled out using the Craiova draw as an excuse and stressed that the team had rested.
Carvajal’s next appearance will have to wait for LaLiga. Rayo’s next game is in the league. They host Elche at the Estadio de Vallecas on Saturday 24 October, with a 12:00 UTC kick-off. Getafe host Lugano at the Coliseum on matchday two of the Conference League on Thursday 22 October, kicking off at 18:45 Spanish time.
