Arsenal vs Newcastle United predictions
For the first time since early October, Arsenal are not top of the Premier League.
That honour now belongs to Manchester City, who overtook the Gunners when they beat Burnley on Wednesday night.
More significant than that win at Turf Moor was City’s 2-1 defeat of Arsenal in a titanic title tussle last weekend. That result at the Etihad Stadium put City in control of the two-way battle for the championship crown.
Yet it is too early for Arsenal to despair. For one, they held their own at the Etihad. It was an even game that could have gone either way. Ultimately, City’s superior finishing was the difference between the two sides.
Secondly, Arsenal are hardly in a terrible position. Even if City were to win all their remaining games, the Gunners could still win the league on goal difference. Mikel Arteta’s men have the easier run-in on paper too.
In a strange way, Arsenal may benefit from the fact they are no longer in the ascendancy. The pressure has shifted to City following their rise to the summit of the standings. Arsenal might be better suited to chasing rather than leading.
Arteta’s side play twice before City are next in action in the Premier League, which means Arsenal could be six points clear at the summit of the standings by the time Pep Guardiola’s charges face Everton on May 4. That would be a decent position in which to begin the final month of the campaign.
But first, Arsenal must take care of business against Newcastle United this weekend.
Arsenal vs Newcastle United betting tips
Arsenal must bounce back in the Premier League title race when they host Newcastle United.
Back to basics for Arsenal
Newcastle United have well and truly run out of steam. Fourteenth in the table, their season is in danger of fizzling out.
Newcastle have lacked spark for several weeks now, and questions are beginning to be asked about whether Eddie Howe has taken the club as far as he can.
This is a good time to be facing the beleaguered Magpies. Although Newcastle could still qualify for Europe, that is a long shot. Having relatively little to play for makes them ideal opponents for a title contender like Arsenal.
The Gunners will probably go back to basics as they seek to return to winning ways. A clean sheet for the hosts is a distinct possibility.

More goals before or after break?
Arsenal did themselves justice against Manchester City last time out, even if the result was not what they wanted it to be.
But their nerves got the better of them in a few games before that, most notably in the 2-1 loss to Bournemouth in their most recent match at the Emirates Stadium.
Tension will be in the air again on Saturday and Arsenal must do a better job of shutting out the noise and playing their usual game.
It could take them a while to get going, so a tight first half is in the offing, but we expect Arsenal to come on strong after the break.
Tip the second half to be higher scoring at 11/10 with Midnite
Eze one to watch
Ebere Eze came close to scoring what could have been the winning goal at the Etihad Stadium last Saturday.
The England international is capable of moments of magic, and Arsenal may need one if they are struggling to break down Newcastle United’s backline.
Eze has had a mixed debut season at the Emirates Stadium. He has been quiet at times, and on other occasions he has not been fully trusted by Arteta.
Eze has delivered decisive interventions in certain matches, though, and Arsenal fans would love to see him take control this weekend.
