Arch Manning leaving Texas early for NFL was ‘never discussed’

The 2026 NFL Draft is just one week away. Meanwhile, Arch Manning and Texas football are preparing for their final spring practices. Many NFL pundits, such as Dan Orlovsky of ESPN, believe Manning could have heard his name called very early in the upcoming draft had he chosen to enter the draft.

As much as the NFL may have been enticing, for Manning, it was never discussed, according to his dad, Cooper Manning, per Chris Low of On3.

“It was never discussed in any way, shape or form,” Cooper Manning told On3.

Manning had some struggles in his first season as a starter for Texas. The team opened up 3-2, and much of the blame was placed at the feet of the Texas quarterback and his play, to the point that one article from The Athletic called Manning a flop. Still, his play and attitude never changed, and his offensive tackle, Trevor Goosby, noticed that Manning never changed and kept leading the team.

“I mean, he was getting beat up everywhere. We let up six sacks,” Goosby recalled. “But that next week, he came out there, never made the first excuse and took every single rep in practice. All that did was solidify my belief that he’s a quarterback I’m willing to put my life on the line for because what matters to Arch is team.”

Arch echoed his desire to help his teammates win as well when speaking to the media in the Spring.

“I wanted a chance to play for a national championship, but I was more bummed for my teammates that I didn’t do enough to win those early games, that I didn’t play well enough. That was just motivation for all of us this offseason,” he said. “I’m excited for another year, excited to do everything I can to give back to a place that’s given so much to me.”

Expectations are high for Texas in 2026 as they hope to return to the College Football Playoff and look to make a run at a title this year.
