Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury is still a big fight, but this heavyweight match-up is more exciting now

Dave Allen isn’t as interested in Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua now, he has his eyes elsewhere in the division.

Fury and Joshua are set to finally meet this year with the contract signed, and only a deal over the venue and date to be thrashed out.

The British heavyweight pairing remain the two biggest commercial superstars in British boxing, but look beyond their prime years.

Joshua was forced to bounce back up from the canvas to beat Kristian Prenga in his most recent outing, while Tyson Fury laboured to victory over Mariusz Wach.

With the fight now seemingly destined for Madison Square Garden in New York, there is a fatigue around the British boxing public.

An endless saga seems so close to ending yet so far with further disagreements with organisers over the destination of the clash.

And although the bout is all-but-confirmed and is awaiting final details, British heavyweight Dave Allen told talkSPORT he is growing tired with the rivalry.

Although likely to watch the bout, he has suggested his interest is now peaked by a mega-clash between Daniel Dubois and Moses Itauma.

“I don’t care about the fight at all,” Allen said on talkSPORT Breakfast. “I’m past caring with it.

“Everything about it, I’m a bit sick of it. Just get in the ring and then I’ll be excited when they are opposite each other.

“For one, it should have happened six or seven years ago, two it might be going to America.

“Three, Joshua got put over in his warm-up fight [against Prenga] and Fury didn’t look great.

“I’m not really bothered anymore, I’d rather watch Moses Itauma vs Daniel Dubois.

“That is a much better boxing contest, it’s an exciting fight. Joshua vs Fury isn’t about who is the best British heavyweight anymore.

“So as a boxing man, I’m more excited for that and I don’t really care anymore.”

Although still being a commercial blockbuster, the clamour to see Joshua vs Fury overseas stateside could diminish.

Some of boxing’s top brass have already called out the decision to try and land the bout in the big apple.

Itauma vs Dubois – when could it happen?

Itauma and Dubois are inevitably on a collision course, in what would likely be the best active British heavyweights in terms of accolades right now.

The bout will become a distinct possibility if Itauma completes his rise by capturing the IBF title with victory over Filip Hrgovic this month.

Dubois will then need to beat Fabio Wardley in their rematch to ensure he retains his newly captured WBO title, in a bout which is targeted this October.

Promoter Frank Warren then anticipates the bout could first be on the table in 2027 in a blockbuster unification clash.
