Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury could be approved as shock world title eliminator

There will be more than just bragging rights on the line when Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury finally collide.

The winner could punch their ticket for a shot at becoming a three-time heavyweight world champion.

That is according to WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman, who insists that the Championship Committee are willing to approve the fight as a final eliminator for newly crowned champion, Agit Kabayel.

“That would be sensational,” Sulaiman told Betway.

“The WBC would absolutely approve that as a final eliminator, because Tyson Fury is the No.1 contender of the division, and the WBC absolutely would be proud to be part of that promotion.

“Both fighters are tremendous. Tyson Fury is one of the greatest ambassadors ever of the WBC. We are so proud.

“He is very friendly, very kind, inside and outside of the ring. 

“Anthony Joshua, he was the first ranked by the WBC when he started boxing.

“He was number two contender of the WBC when he had the opportunity from the IBF [to fight Charles Martin].

“He had to go the other way, and he was the WBC International Champion for several years, but that’s the way boxing is.

“Maybe this will be the time to bring Anthony Joshua to the WBC.”

Joshua vs Fury is expected to be announced imminently.

Organisers are planning to stage the event in November, with Netflix set to broadcast the event.

The only roadblock both parties face at this stage is the location.

Saudi powerbroker Turki Alalshikh and streaming service Netflix want the all-British showdown to land across the pond in the United States.

Joshua, on the other hand, has it written into his contract that the fight must take place on British shores.

While Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn appear to be standing firm, it seems more than likely that Alalshikh will get his wish.

New York’s Madison Square Garden have already made an offer to stage the fight as the inevitable edges closer to becoming a reality.
