Angel Reese demolishes Tina Charles record in heroic Dream debut

The Atlanta Dream could be one of the WNBA’s most dangerous teams during the 2026 season. Atlanta already had a star-studded roster before acquiring Angel Reese in a blockbuster trade before the regular season. Reese certainly made her presence felt during her Atlanta debut, smashing a WNBA record held by one of the league’s most iconic figures.

Reese logged 11 points and 14 rebounds during her first game with the Dream. That saw the young superstar pass an impressive milestone in WNBA history.

Reese recorded her 50th career double-double in just 65 games played. She became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach that mark, the league announced on Saturday. Reese surpassed the legendary Tina Charles, who needed 75 games to reach the same milestone.

This comes just days after Charles announced her retirement from the WNBA after 14 seasons in the league. Charles retired as the W’s all-time leader in rebounds (4,262) and field goals (3,364). She was second to only Diana Taurasi in points scored (8,396), cementing her as one of the WNBA’s most legendary players.

There’s no question that Dream fans would love for Reese to have a Hall of Fame career like Charles. She certainly looked capable of that against the Lynx.

Atlanta took their first lead of the game with just 12 seconds left. Reese made the play of the night with an impressive game-winning block in the final seconds to secure their 91-90 victory over Minnesota.

Reese got plenty of help from Allisha Gray, who scored 16 points in the second half to help cement the comeback victory. Gray scored 24 point total, with Naz Hillmon and Rhyne Howard also contributing 15 points each. Jordin Canada finished with 12 points.

Next up for the Dream is an away game against the Wings on Tuesday, May 12th at 8PM ET.
