Alex Bregman shares obvious message amid Cubs’ 8-game losing streak
The Chicago Cubs were defeated once again on Sunday, losing by a final score of 8-5 to the Houston Astros. Not only was Chicago swept by Houston in the three-game series, but the Cubs have now dropped eight consecutive games. Third baseman Alex Bregman shared a message following the defeat, via Marquee Sports Network.
“We gotta do a better job still,” Bregman said.
The Cubs infielder also accepted responsibility.
“It starts with me obviously, too many empty plate appearances,” Bregman added. “Gotta be better and execute better.”
The Cubs certainly do need to be better. They are dealing with a plethora of injuries — especially when it comes to pitching. Nevertheless, Chicago is not going to make excuses.
The Cubs could certainly look to trade for pitching help, though. Boosting their rotation depth would be helpful to say the least. Trading for a star pitcher would not be a bad idea either.
Chicago now holds a 29-24 overall record. The team is currently in third place in the competitive National League Central standings, where they trail the 30-20 Milwaukee Brewers by 2.5 games for first place. Meanwhile, the St. Louis Cardinals are 29-22 and 1.5 games behind the Brewers.
The Cubs have more than enough talent to make a postseason push. They will surely bounce back sooner rather than later. There is no question that they are in a slump right now, though.
Chicago will look to get back on track in an upcoming series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. First pitch for the first contest of the four-game series is scheduled for 1:35 PM EST on Monday afternoon.
