Steven Knight might be the brains behind the next James Bond, but Alan Brazil takes the credit for his most recent creation.

talkSPORT listeners will know all too well that the Breakfast host is fond of the odd pint of Guinness, but few will be aware that it actually inspired a hit Netflix series.

Alan Brazil is a known lover of the ‘black stuff’

In September, period drama ‘House of Guinness’ hit the screens, detailing the early years of the popular Irish stout.

While Knight’s name appears on the end credits, he has revealed everyone need look no further than Brazil for the idea behind the popular show.

In an appearance on talkSPORT Breakfast last week, the Peaky Blinders creator shared the unlikely source of inspiration.

Sitting down with Jeff Stelling and Gabby Agbonlahor, Knight was quickly quizzed over rumours floating around the studio.

Agbonahlor began: “I have to ask you about House of Guinness because Mr. Brazil tells lies. He also says things that are true.

“He apparently claims that it was his idea.”

And to the everyone’s surprise, Knight confirmed this story was absolutely true.

He came back: “It was! He’s absolutely correct.

“We were there, shortly after one of his shows, 10:15am and there we are in the pub.

“He came up with this fantastic idea of ordering a pint of Guinness, and the rest is history.”

The next 007?

Knight even joked that Brazil’s involvement in his career might not stop there.

In July, it was announced that the screenwriter and Birmingham City fan would write the latest James Bond movie.

With the identity of the next 007 yet to be revealed, speculation has been rife over who will succeed Daniel Craig as the new lead actor.

Plenty of names have been thrown in the mix, from Aaron Taylor-Johnson to Tom Hardy and Spiderman’s Tom Holland.

And didn’t take long for Agbonlahor to try and get an inside scoop, as he asked: “So I can’t ask you who is playing Bond then?”

To this, Knight jokingly replied: “It’s Alan Brazil!”

Alan Brazil’s Guinness boycott

Brazil’s filmwriting credits might begin and end with House of Guinness, but it is perhaps little surprise that he was able to come up with a winning idea about the popular stout.

The talkSPORT host has been vocal about his favourite tipple over the years.

So much so, that when rumours began to spread of a Guinness shortage at this year’s Cheltenham Festival, Brazil threatened a boycott.

With approximately 265,000 pints of the ‘black stuff’ being sold during the week, this didn’t sit right with the festival cult hero.

When asked what his response would be if his favourite tipple were to be missing in 2025, Brazil pledged: “We don’t go!”

But the relief of everyone attending Cheltenham, the drink was in strong supply in the end, and it’s fair to say Brazil enjoyed his fair share on Gold Cup day.

As is often the case on the event’s final day, the broadcasting legend was nowhere to be seen for talkSPORT Breakfast’s early start, before he was finally tracked down in the festival’s famous Guinness village.
