Aaron Rodgers torches ESPN coverage of Dianna Russini scandal while appearing live on network

Aaron Rodgers fired shots at ESPN and their coverage during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, which is broadcast live by the network.

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, who is gearing up for the final season of his Hall of Fame NFL career, sat down at training camp to discuss his mindset for 2026.

“I’m going to plead the fifth, like that absolute coward Tony Fauci,” Rodgers began, when McAfee asked if everything is ‘better’ and more ‘fun’ now he knows he’ll soon be walking away.

He then went on to unload an astonishing rant on Dr. Fauci, a former top US health official who last week repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment as he gave testimony at a tense Senate hearing on Covid-19.

“You got a pardon, and you’re in front of (the Senate)… and you pleaded over 100 times?” Rodgers added.

“What are you scared of, Tony? I thought you were the science… and you get up there and you can’t answer a question?”

The four-time NFL MVP then turned on ESPN for what he believes was non-stop coverage of his offseason retirement decision.

Rodgers also referenced speculation over his ‘vaccination status’ and the wall-to-wall discussion around Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s recent wedding.

“How much time did the network spend on that?” Rodgers asked.

“How much time do they spend on my responses every week? On my vaccination status, on Taylor and Travis’ wedding? Did they do even a minute on Tony Fauci? No, I bet they didn’t.”

McAfee, who was recently said to be negotiating a $60 million per year deal with ESPN, then tried to steer the conversation back on track.

But Rodgers was having none of it, and took aim at the network’s sparse coverage of the scandal surrounding Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel.

The Athletic’s former senior NFL insider was at the heart of an offseason storm, alongside the New England Patriots head coach, and later resigned from her role.

“There was another scandal this offseason, too, involving a voter for MVP, for Coach of the Year,” Rodgers said.

“How much time did your network spend on that?”

Off camera, one of McAfee’s co-hosts could be heard urging Rodgers to ‘go back to Fauci’ and while he initially did, he later returned to Russini once the show migrated from ESPN to YouTube only.

“What is the network doing? You have literally an individual that maybe used to work at ESPN that covers our league at the highest level, and there’s a major scandal, and it’s just, like, nobody can f***ing talk about it,” the QB said.

“I understand (the personal life aspect), but if it’s affecting certain things. If there’s leaks going on, if there’s tampering going on, if that person is also an MVP voter and a Coach of the Year voter… how are we allowing these people to have an impact?”

Rodgers wrapped up his stunning outburst by insisting he informed the crew he would be ‘bringing it’ during their interview.

He did just that, and clips of his appearance quickly started to spread on social media, racking up hundreds of thousands of views in the hours that followed.

Rodgers, of course, has been no stranger to controversial soundbites over the years.
