AJ Pierzynski reveals honest truth of injury Mariners’ Cal Raleigh is dealing with

The Seattle Mariners have been up and down this season, and things may not get better in the short term after Cal Raleigh was placed on the 10-day IL. Raleigh is dealing with a right oblique strain, and there’s no doubt that it’s been affecting his play, as he just broke his 0-38 streak.

AJ Pierzynski knows the feeling of playing through an oblique injury, and he expressed on Foul Territory TV what Raleigh might be dealing with.

“You can try to play through this, but especially for me, being a left-hand hitter, it was my right side,” Pierzynski said. “It’s not easy to do, and it affects everything you do. It wasn’t comfortable. You couldn’t run, it was hard to breathe, hard to eat, hard to laugh. It’s hard to do a lot of things. I understand why Cal tried to gut through this, and he won’t use this as an excuse for why he went o-36, but trying to play through this is next to impossible.

“Unless you’ve done this in your life, you don’t understand how hard it is to try and play through an oblique injury because it affects every part of your life.”

Hopefully, Raleigh doesn’t have to miss more time than expected, and he can return close to 100%. This is the first time in Raleigh’s career that he’s been on the IL, so this could do wonders for him and his health as he tries to catch somewhat of a break during a long season.

The good news for the Mariners is that they’ve been quite healthy this season in other areas, so they should still be able to stay afloat regardless of Raleigh’s injury. Also, no one has stepped up and taken the AL West by storm, so the Mariners are sitting in the perfect situation for the time being.
