For some, the lasting image of AJ Brown’s time with the Philadelphia Eagles was him refusing to speak with the media and leaving Lincoln Financial Field alone after their loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild-card round of the playoffs in January.

He knew his stint with the Eagles was over.

But in hindsight, it also signaled the beginning of his new chapter. He got a clean slate after Philadelphia traded him to the New England Patriots in June. Even before the deal, Brown did not hide his displeasure with the Eagles over his reduced role and fewer touches.

However, in a report from The Athletic’s Chad Graff, the 29-year-old wide receiver revealed that even when they won the Super Bowl in 2025, he had misgivings about the Eagles.

“I was trying to feel how I thought we should feel, and in that moment, I just kind of learned that it’s not the trophy, it’s not the ring, it’s the journey,” said Brown.

“It’s growing with your teammates and your teammates depending on you and your locker room convos, and the guys jumping in the pool after practice. It’s the little things. Building a team and camaraderie. It’s all those little things, not just the destination.”

The Patriots sent a fifth-round pick in 2027 and a first-round pick in 2028 to the Eagles to get Brown, a three-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro.

He quickly felt at home in New England, especially since he reunited with coach Mike Vrabel, who handled the mercurial pass-catcher on the Tennessee Titans.

Brown is ready to move on with the Patriots. He could be the final piece in New England’s mission to return to the Super Bowl and avenge last season’s loss. Perhaps this time, Brown would enjoy the win.
