Aces’ A’ja Wilson breaks tie with WNBA legend with big game vs. Mystics

Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson is pretty good at this basketball thing.

With Wilson leading the attack, the Aces snapped the seven-game winning streak of the Washington Mystics, 86-76, at Michelob ULTRA Arena on Tuesday. Las Vegas improved to 22-11, including 10-5 at home. Washington dropped to 19-13.

The Aces also avenged their loss to the Mystics, 100-99, at CareFirst Arena last month.

Wilson was unstoppable in their rematch, finishing with game-highs of 26 points and 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and four blocks. She shot 10-of-18 from the floor.

According to StatMuse, the four-time MVP broke a tie with WNBA legend Sylvia Fowles for most games with at least five stocks (steals + blocks) since 2010.

Fowles is now an assistant coach of the Portland Fire.

The 30-year-old Wilson, with her length, mobility, and high IQ, is one of the best defenders in league history. She is a three-time Defensive Player of the Year and a four-time member of the All-Defensive First Team. She is aware that she sets the tone on both ends for the Aces, so she maintains her two-way energy.

Jackie Young also showed up against the Mystics, tallying 25 points, four three-pointers, and eight assists. She became the seventh-fastest player in league history to reach 4,000 points and 1,000 assists.

Wilson, Young, and Chelsea Gray sat out in their loss to the New York Liberty on Sunday for rest purposes.

The Aces are looking for their fourth title in five years. Wilson has a strong chance to win her fifth MVP, adding to her league record.

Las Vegas and Washington will face off again on Thursday in the same venue.
