Aaron Ramsey in talks with EFL club over first managerial role
Aaron Ramsey is in talks with Oxford United to become their new manager, talkSPORT understands.
Oxford are on the hunt for a fresh face in the dugout after they axed Matt Bloomfield on Saturday.

Bloomfield was appointed as Gary Rowett’s successor but ultimately lasted just five months at the Kassam Stadium.
Under Bloomfield, the U’s finished 22nd in the Championship last season, dropping them into League One.
Oxford are now seeking their third manager in the space of 18 months having previously axed Des Buckingham in December 2024.
Has Aaron Ramsey ever managed before?
Should Ramsey take over at Oxford, it would be his first permanent managerial role.
The 86-time Wales international had a taste of life in the dugout when he took over at Cardiff City on a caretaker basis for three games at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Ramsey was installed after predecessor Omer Riza was sacked.
However, Ramsey was ultimately unable to save his boyhood club from relegation to League One having drawn twice and lost once from his three games at the helm.
Following Cardiff’s relegation, Ramsey left the club and moved to UNAM in Mexico in July 2025, only to leave three months later due to off-field issues.
When did Aaron Ramsey retire?
Although he had offers from other clubs to continue his playing career after departing UNAM, Ramsey ultimately called time on his career in April.
Ramsey is fondly remembered for his 11-year stint at Arsenal, where he made just shy of 370 appearances.

While with the Gunners, Ramsey won three FA Cups and was named the club’s player of the season twice.
Ramsey had not been shy about pursuing a career in management once his playing days were over and has even spoken about one day managing Wales.
In October 2024, Ramsey claimed managing the nation he once helped reach the semi-finals of Euro 2016 would be a dream come true.
“Hopefully it is a few years away yet, but it would definitely interest me one day,” Ramsey said.
“That would be a very proud moment for me.
“I’ve done my A Licence and will be starting my Pro Licence soon, and it’s definitely something I’m really interested in.”
