5 IPL stars likely to enter auction in 2027 season
The Indian Premier League (IPL) saw several youngsters making ripples over the years, and 2026 was no different. From Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to Angkrish Raghuvanshi, many youngsters have impressed during the season. However, the same cannot be said about some of the experienced players who failed to do justice to their price tag.
As the IPL enters its business end, let's take a look at some star players who could be released by their respective franchises and come up for grabs in the IPL 2027 mini-auction.
5 IPL stars likely to enter Auction in 2027 season:
5. Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane initially went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction, but the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) eventually roped him in at his base price and appointed him captain. In the last two seasons, KKR have finished eighth and seventh, respectively.
Rahane has not been able to lead his team from the front. In IPL 2026, he scored just 335 runs in 14 innings at an average of 25.77 and a strike rate of 135.09. After back-to-back debacles, the KKR management could decide to part ways with Rahane and give the captaincy responsibility to someone like Rinku Singh, who was the vice-captain this year.
4. Trent Boult
Trent Boult returned to the Mumbai Indians (MI) during the IPL 2025 mega-auction for INR 12.50 crore. He played a crucial role in helping the five-time champions reach the playoffs last season. However, after being retained for IPL 2026, the Kiwi seamer had a forgettable campaign.
Boult played five matches, picking up two wickets at an average of 94 and an economy rate of 11.63. The left-arm seamer is usually lethal with the new ball, but this season, he looked out of rhythm. After finishing ninth on the points table, MI may want to release him and buy him back for a lesser amount or pick a younger option at a lower price.
3. Kuldeep Yadav
Releasing Kuldeep Yadav will free up INR 13.25 crore for the Delhi Capitals (DC), who finished sixth in IPL 2026. The left-arm wrist endured a difficult campaign, failing to make much of an impact through the middle overs.
With fellow wrist spinner Vipraj Nigam also having an underwhelming season, Axar Patel had to take the entire pressure of delivering as a tweaker. If DC are keen on keeping Kuldeep in their ranks, they could opt to release him into the auction and try to acquire his services for a lesser amount.
2. T Natarajan
T Natarajan is another star player who failed to deliver in IPL 2026. He missed most of last season due to an injury. However, while he was fit this year, his rhythm was not up to the mark. Having made a reputation for himself as a death-overs specialist, Natarajan couldn't put the opposition batters under pressure and eventually finished with five wickets from 10 matches at an average of 71.20 and an economy rate of 11.18.
If the Delhi Capitals release him, they will get a hefty INR 10.75 crore, which they can use in the mini-auction to plug a few gaps in their squad.
1. Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant's struggles in the IPL in Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) colours continued in IPL 2026. He became the highest-paid player in the IPL after earning a record-shattering INR 27 crore contract at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Despite an abysmal season with the bat and as a leader, LSG decided to give him another opportunity.
However, Pant failed to repay for the faith that LSG management showed in his abilities. Under his leadership, LSG finished at the bottom of the table. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka is known for his hunger for success, and after two consecutive disappointing seasons for his franchise, he could opt for a revamp, and it could start with Pant's release.
