4-star CB picks Cal over UCLA, Arizona State

California football landed a four-star safety and Oregon target one month ago in Myles Baker. Cal now adds a second four-star, beating out UCLA and Arizona State for cornerback Duvay Williams.

The Golden Bears ousted their former Pac-12 rivals to land the Serra High standout from Gardena, Ca. Wednesday, with Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals confirming the move.

The Golden Bears pull in the nation’s No. 30 cornerback and the state of California’s No. 25 overall talent. Michael Hutchings and Davon Brown tag teamed in landing Williams.

Williams’ commitment surfaces as a brand new College Football Recruiting win for new head coach Tosh Lupoi. The ex-Golden Bears defensive line watched Oregon and Alabama build up highly ranked classes while he was an assistant for both. Lupoi clearly is bringing the same recruiting juice he learned from past bosses Nick Saban and Dan Lanning over to Berkeley.

National recruiting analyst for On3/Rivals Greg Biggins likened Williams’ game to two past Serra legends who played in the NFL.

“He played his first three years at Gardena (Calif.) Serra and was being compared early on to a couple of former Cavalier two-way standouts in Adoree Jackson and Robert Woods,” Biggins wrote. “He was a rare freshman starter at Serra and was already a national recruit at the time.”

Biggins adds that Cal plans to throw him into its secondary, which is annually the strongest position for the Bears. Cal produced future draft picks in Ashtyn Davis, Cam Bynum, Jaylinn Hawkins, Nohl Williams and now, Hezekiah Masses. The latter joined the Las Vegas Raiders as a 2026 fifth rounder.

Williams and Baker help comprise the nation’s No. 23 recruiting class for the Bears with now 10 total commits.
