Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham joins exclusive club with heroic home run vs. Angels
The New York Yankees opened their three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. The Yankees won the game in walk-off fashion, breaking a five-game losing skid.
While Trent Grisham did not have the walk-off hit, it was his home run that put the Yankees in a position to win the game. It was also a home run that put him in an exclusive Yankees club, according to Sarah Langs.
Grisham’s home run in the ninth inning was his second of the game. More impressively, he did not start the game, but came in off the bench, making him one of five players in Yankees’ regular-season history to have multiple home runs coming off the bench. He joins Raul Ibanez, Curtis Granderson, Cody Ransom, and Steve Balboni. Ibanez also did it in the 2012 ALDS in Game 3.
It was a home run festival between the Yankees and the Angels. Aaron Judge hit a home run in the first inning, and Jose Caballero went deep in the second, leading to a 4-0 lead for the Yanks. The angels would tie the game up in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, Grisham came in as a pinch hitter, hitting a three-run shot.
Mike Trout would join the home run party with a three-run blast in the sixth inning to tie the game, but Judge hit his second of the game in the bottom of the inning to take the lead again. The Angels tied the game in the seventh, and Trout hit his second of the game in the eighth inning to give the Angels the lead.
Grisham came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, with Jazz Chisholm Jr. on base. Grisham then hit his second dinger of the game to tie the game. The Yankees would then win on a wild pitch, breaking the five-game skid.
