Wyndham Clark gets emotional Father’s Day surprise after US Open win

On Sunday at Shinnecock Hills, Wyndham Clark secured his second US Open title and became one of only 24 golfers to win the tournament more than once. The win was worth $4.5 million from the event’s record $22.5 million purse, while runner-up Sam Burns earned $2.43 million and third-place finisher Tom Kim collected $1.532 million.

The final round tested Clark despite entering the day with a six-shot lead. His advantage was nearly erased, but a clutch performance on the 18th hole allowed him to hold off Burns and clinch the championship. Clark finished the tournament at four-under par.

The most memorable moment of the day came after the winning putt. Clark initially celebrated with his girlfriend, Emily Tanner, along with friends and his caddie before heading toward the clubhouse. There, he received an unexpected Father’s Day surprise when he spotted his dad, Randall Clark, in the crowd.

Randall had not been expected to attend the final round in Southampton, New York. After undergoing open-heart surgery in 2024, he secretly boarded a red-eye flight from Denver to New York without informing his son. Wyndham was unaware that his father had made the trip until after the victory.

The emotional reunion unfolded on the 18th green as father and son embraced following the championship win.

“I’m so proud of you!” Randall told his son. “That was the toughest round you’ve ever played.”

“Thanks, Pops. I’m glad you could be here,” Wyndham replied.

One year after his widely discussed frustration-filled US Open appearance at Oakmont in 2025, Wyndham remained composed throughout the week at Shinnecock Hills and completed a successful campaign with another major title.
