Writing on wall for AJ Brown as Peter Schrager mock draft offers Eagles path to first round deal

Peter Schrager has spoken.

The ESPN host and reporter does only two mock drafts before the event takes place later this month.

Last week’s Annual League Meeting was the perfect opportunity for him to gather intel, and on Tuesday, he released his first set of predictions.

Schrager has predicted the Philadelphia Eagles will select Washington wide receiver Denzel Boston with the 23rd pick in the third-round.

“Boston is electric, and Washington coach Jedd Fisch and Eagles general manager Howie Roseman are longtime college buddies,” Schrager wrote.

“Some NFL sources I have spoken to have Boston as the second or third wideout in this class.

“If the Eagles take him, A.J. Brown’s future becomes all the more interesting, and will undoubtedly hit the A Block on ‘Get Up’ on Friday morning coming out of the draft.”

Despite the Eagles making their stance clear, questions have continued to be asked regarding the future status of Brown.

On the surface, 2025 was another solid season for the 28-year-old, posting 1,003 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

But, Brown was involved in multiple off-the-field storylines in 2025, including speculation of a fractured relationship with quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Accusations were also made that he had given up on a play in Week 5, amid speculation that he and fellow receiver DeVonta Smith were frustrated with the run-heavy offense.

With the Eagles tipped to select a receiver in the first round, it could provide a good opportunity for them to get a second first round pick, and there is one team who should be targeting Brown.

New England Patriots listed as top destination for Brown in potential pre-draft trade

Should the Eagles put Brown on the block, he will not be short of suitors. There is one team who has been continuously linked with them the entire offseason.

The New England Patriots fit makes a lot of sense for a number of reasons.

Firstly, the connections between himself, and head coach Mike Vrabel, who landed Brown in the second-round when he was leading the Tennessee Titans in 2019.

Secondly, Drake Maye led New England to the Super Bowl with Stefon Diggs as WR.1, who posted 1,013 yards, and no other receiver made it past 600.

The Patriots released Diggs at the start of the offseason, and brought in Romeo Doubs whose career high is 724 receiving yards.

NFL.com writer Matt Okada only reinforced why the Patriots should pull the trigger on this trade.

“Brown would step into New England as the clear-cut No.1, and he’d be the franchises most legitimate “X” receiver since Randy Moss nearly two decades ago,” Okada wrote.

“Brown is also an excellent fit for Maye’s arm and the Patriots’ downfield offense.

“A Brown-Vrabel reunion checks a lot of boxes, as long as the teams can come to an agreement on compensation.”

The Patriots own the 31st pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and potentially with two first-round picks, the Eagles could use the second selection on adding a true defensive end to enhance their explosive potential.
