Wrexham v Swansea prediction
Wrexham will be eager to get back to winning ways on Friday night as they look to extend their lead ahead of the play-off’s chasing pack having fallen to consecutive defeats in the last week, initially to Chelsea in the FA Cup before falling in the league against Hull.
The defeat to the Tigers saw them open up a six point gap between themselves in fifth and Phil Parkinson’s side in sixth, while the latter will be thankful that none of the teams below them won in midweek other, though their lead has been cut to three points over Southampton in seventh.
The Red Dragons had been on a three match winning streak prior to their defeat to Chelsea in the fifth round of the FA Cup, and will be looking to get back on that horse in their bid for an unprecedented fourth consecutive promotion into the Premier League.
In contrast, Swansea have managed to add to six points to their tally over the past week after wins over both Stoke and Portsmouth saw them put an end to their run of one in and four.
Vitor Matos’ side have now climbed into the top half of the Championship table for the first time since the start of November, themselves now only five points shy of Wrexham in the top six, albeit having played a game more.
The Swans have tended to struggle on the road this season though, with only West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday having picked up fewer points on the road than the south Wales side, following nine defeats in their last 12 away games, although they do have two wins in their last four, including at Portsmouth on Tuesday night.
Swansea have only won one of their last 10 matches against Wrexham but that victory did come in their last meeting with the Red Dragons back in December.
Wrexham, despite back to back defeats, have still won three of their last four matches in the league and will back themselves to get back to winning ways on Friday against a Swansea side who have struggled to pick up points on the road all season – a 2-1 home win seemingly most likely.
