WPL 2026: ‘Please come prepared’ - Jhulan Goswami calls out reporter after factual error
Former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami firmly addressed a reporter during a press conference ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 season. Goswami, who is part of the Mumbai Indians Women support staff, was present alongside team captain Harmanpreet Kaur before their season opener scheduled for Friday, January 9.
The moment arose when a reporter questioned Harmanpreet about recovering from the disappointment of a run-out in the 2023 World Cup final. The captain appeared visibly confused by the inaccurate reference. Goswami stepped in, urging the reporter to verify facts and be better prepared before asking such questions, emphasising the importance of responsible and informed journalism at press events.
"Wo final me run out nahi hui thi. Aap pehle apna history proper karke aaye, fir sawaal kare. Sorry to say this, but it was some other player and some other time. So please aap apna prepare karke aaye (She did not run out in the final. First get your history correct then ask questions. Please come prepared)," Goswami said in the press conference.
To all sports journalists do some basic research before questioning any women cricketers, I do not know what kind of question that was.. thanks to Jhulu di for that reply otherwise Harry would have smacked him like those Bangladeshi stumps pic.twitter.com/oSJjBD2jEq — Bonny 🎀💕 (@harryjeee) January 7, 2026
The run-out in question actually occurred during the semi-final against Australia in the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, but the reporter mistakenly mixed up the opponent and the stage of the match, which prompted Goswami’s sharp response. Her immediate support for Harmanpreet was widely appreciated, with fans across social media praising Goswami for standing up for her captain and calling out the factual error.
Goswami has been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians Women setup since the inception of the WPL. Over the years, the team has built a strong bond, reflected in their success, having won two WPL titles. That camaraderie was evident again recently when Harmanpreet, after leading India to the Women’s World Cup title in November 2025, invited Goswami to join the celebrations in Navi Mumbai.
Mumbai Indians enter the new season as defending champions, having beaten Delhi Capitals in last year’s final. They will face Smriti Mandhana-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women in the season opener on January 9.
