A woman has been jailed over a horror crash on the motorway that saw a former Bournemouth star lose his leg.

He was returning home from a match with Southern League club Bashley when the incident occurred on Saturday, February 1, 2025.

The 31-year-old was put into an induced coma after a driver of a Mercedes had crashed into a VW Golf, and had his leg amputated.

The former Bournemouth player also suffered open fractures on his left leg, along with a cracked pelvis.

Jailed

Anna Bogusiewicz has now been jailed for 28 months after she pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The 45-year-old, of Wraysbury, Berkshire, was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on Friday, January 23.

She was also disqualified from driving for three years, and will need to take an extended retest before being allowed behind the wheel.

DC Joy Jarvis said: “There is absolutely no excuse for getting behind the wheel of any vehicle when you are impaired from drinking alcohol.

“This terrible collision, which has changed a man’s life, could have easily been avoided if the defendant hadn’t made that selfish decision to drive while drunk.”

In a victim impact statement, Chiedozie told the court: “Before, my life was simple… now every single thing is difficult.”

He added: “I would love my life to be normal again.

“But it won’t ever be because of one day that changed everything.”

Chiedozie, who worked as a roofer alongside his football career, was travelling with physio Reighan Taylor when the crash happened.

Speaking out following the crash, Chiedozie said: “I think you just have to [stay positive], you just have to get on with it.

“If you stay too much thinking of what happened and the past, I don’t think it helps with the recovery and being able to get as close as to normal as before, going forward.”

Chiedozie was given a guard of honour by teammates as Bashley hosted Bournemouth’s youth side during a benefit match in 2025.

The former Cambridge United ace played for the Cherries’ academy side for seven years in the early years of his career.

Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola gave Chiedozie a tour of the club’s new performance centre last summer.

The latter also presented the match ball for the south coast outfit’s 3-2 home win over Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the month.
