WNBA rumors: Sky, Sparks discussing potentially huge deal after Angel Reese trade
Recently, the Chicago Sky sent a shock through the WNBA world when it was announced that they would be trading star Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream in exchange for a collection of draft picks. The move brought an end to Reese’s tenure in the Windy City, and was met with an overwhelmingly negative reception from the team’s fanbase.
Now, the Sky are reportedly in talks on another blockbuster trade, this time with the Los Angeles Sparks.
“The Chicago Sky and LA Sparks are in discussions re: a trade that would send Ariel Atkins to the Sparks for Rickea Jackson, multiple sources told me. While nothing is finalized, an announcement is expected Saturday,” reported Annie Costabile of Front Office Sports on X, formerly Twitter.
Atkins is another fan favorite in Chicago, and moving on from her would likely send another stir from the fanbase, even if it is for another established player in Jackson. Jackson also seemingly still has room to grow in her WNBA career at the age of 25.
Clearly, the Sky are all-in on picking a new direction for the future, even if it might come at the expense of some wins in the short term. While the Reese deal was widely panned, the Sky did bring back two future first-round picks in return, which could end up being highly valuable, especially if the Dream don’t perform as well as they hope to with their new-look roster.
In any case, the highly-anticipated 2026 WNBA season is slated to get underway in early May.
