Willy Hutchinson chasing world title after ‘easy’ win against Ezra Taylor as he makes amends with Simon Jordan
Willy Hutchinson believes his win over Ezra Taylor has ‘opened a lot of doors’ as he now eyes undisputed glory.
Hutchinson dominated Taylor in Manchester on Saturday night to claim the WBO Global light heavyweight strap.

The scorecards were wide and read 99-91, 98-92, and 98-92 in favour of ‘The Hutch Train’ on the Magnificent 7 bill.
Ahead of the fight, Hutchinson was involved in a war of words with talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan, who backed Taylor to get the job done at the Co-op Live Arena.
Jordan said he would be ‘happy to eat crow’ if Hutchinson won the fight and the latter responded by telling the talkSPORT host to ‘stick to the football’.
Well, just two days after his impressive win over Taylor, Hutchinson joined Jordan and Jim White live on talkSPORT.
Hutchinson: Taylor was ‘easy’ – I want Buatsi rematch
Jordan credited Hutchinson’s ‘brilliant performance’ before the Livingston-born boxer explained just how good he felt in there.
“Everything went to plan,” Hutchinson said.
“And like I said to you, it was easy money. It was an easy fight. I don’t know what everyone else was seeing.
“I didn’t know if I was deluded or what it was, but exactly what I said it was going to be, exactly how it was.
“It was steady work and we move on to the next one now.”
Speaking on what he wants next, Hutchinson noted that a rematch with Joshua Buatsi is top of the list.

Hutchinson suffered just the second defeat of his career to the Londoner in 2024 on the Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois undercard.
But he’s confident he would prevail in a rematch.
“I think I’ve opened not just [Jordan’s] eyes, I’ve opened a lot of people’s eyes to what I’m capable of,” the 27-year-old concluded.
“That’s only a little part of what I can do… I’ve opened a lot of doors there with that fight.
“Like I said to you, these doors were open a long time ago, but for some reason, everyone’s just seeing it now.
“I’m ready to become world champion. I want the best.

“For me, I would like to get my revenge on Buatsi and show you all how easy night’s work I can make of him.
“Never mind to push on to the next level. Buatsi is there, and there’s that next level above him, and that’s where I believe I am.
“I believe I will become light heavyweight undisputed champion of the world.”
The future at 175lbs
Buatsi bounced back from his first career loss to Callum Smith last year by defeating Zach Parker in November.
Smith is now booked to face David Morrell for the WBO interim light heavyweight belt in Liverpool next month.
Another name mentioned by Hutchinson was Anthony Yarde, who was stopped by David Benavidez in a world title bout last November.
Benavidez is the current WBC titleholder at light heavyweight, but is moving up a division to box Gilberto Ramirez for the WBC cruiserweight strap in May.
Despite the move, Benavidez is holding on to his belt at 175lbs, unlike Shakur Stevenson, who lost his WBC belt by moving up to fight Teofimo Lopez.
Dmitry Bivol holds the remaining WBA, IBF and WBO belts at light heavyweight.
Dan Rafael reported earlier this month that a deal is in place for Bivol to fight his IBF mandatory challenger Michael Eifert on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk vs Rico Verhoeven in Egypt.
